Bluebird Self Storage and ICM to Break Ground on Self-Storage Facility in Calgary

(Calgary, Alberta) Bluebird Self Storage and ICM Asset Management are set to break ground on a 124,000 SF self-storage development project in Northeast Calgary, Alberta. The 1.5-acre well-located project will feature climate-controlled storage units, best-in-class amenities, and drive-in storage units on the east and west perimeters of the building. The facility will be operated by Bluebird Self Storage, the 7th largest self-storage operator in Canada.

Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Toronto, the principals behind Bluebird have developed over 100 premium self-storage facilities in the United States and Canada under various brands. They currently operate 28 Bluebird self-storage locations across Canada.  Bluebird is growing aggressively and is Canada’s most progressive lifestyle storage concept.

Reade DeCurtins, Bluebird Self Storage’s Co-Founder and Real Estate Director based in Calgary, believes the Alberta market is fertile ground for the company’s growth. “Our footprint is rapidly expanding in Western Canada and we’re bullish about what we see ahead. Storage rates in select Alberta markets match those of other major metropolitan markets in Canada.”

The self-storage development project is located adjacent to ICM’s Mayland Yards project in the Mayland Heights neighbourhood in Northeast Calgary. The property is located within a 5-minute drive to Downtown with access to major arterial roads, including Highway #1, Deerfoot Trail, and Stoney Trail.
